What kind of camera will be installed in my community?
The Flock Safety LPR is a license plate reading camera designed to prevent and reduce crime in your community. Unlike doorbell cameras or traditional home security systems, the LPR camera works 24/7 to capture license plates of vehicles that enter your neighborhood, which are the #1 piece of evidence that local law enforcement needs to investigate an incident.
How do LPR cameras work?
Flock Safety LPR cameras are designed to take pictures of vehicles and license plates. They solve crime in two ways: firstly, they send a proactive alert to local law enforcement when a stolen vehicle, vehicle associated with a wanted offender, or missing person, is detected. Secondly, they provide searchable evidence in the event a crime occurs, for a default 30-day retention period.
Who can access Flock data?
Flock Safety’s customers own 100% of their data and determine who has access. Flock Safety will never share or sell the data *without customer permission*, per our privacy policy. All access is logged.
How does Flock protect my privacy?
Flock Safety has strict measures in place to protect resident privacy. Here are a few of the ways we protect privacy:
- We store all data for only 30 days (or in adherence with local laws). Customers own all of their data
- Flock will never share or sell data with third parties *without customer permission*. The customer is the only one to determine who has access to the footage.
- The Flock LPR system intentionally does not include vehicle registration data.

Our community is exploring a proactive approach to reduce crime and protect our neighborhood with Flock Safety LPR (Automated License Plate Reader) cameras, a national public safety operating system that specializes in community safety through the use of license plate reading cameras. License plates are the #1 piece of evidence that police request in the case of criminal activity such as home and car break-ins. Flock Safety’s cameras are entirely self-sufficient; they are solar-powered and send footage via mobile technology to a secure cloud-based network unique to our community. The cameras are specifically designed to capture information about every vehicle that enters our community to turn images into actionable evidence.
Privacy is a top concern for Flock and our community. The footage and data that is collected is automatically deleted after 30 days and is accessible only by limited members of the board.
